The Old School School Bus
Some of you may remember the old school bus that was being towed through the Berlin Christmas Parade last year, and afterwards was parked out front of The Old School.
This bus was rescued from deep in the western Wisconsin woods after serving as a hunting retreat for over 50 years. Needless to say it didn’t run, had no brakes but was filled with all sorts of potential…
Original plan for the old bus was to provide it, its’ own unique final resting spot in the woods at The Old School. There would be a narrow winding path leading to it… lined with beautiful flowers and other natural plants. The bus would be used as a place to get away from it all, to quietly concentrate on school studies, while being able to overlook passing traffic on the highway.
Well, that all changed one Sunday afternoon when those Rambunctious Kids had their elbows on the bar and their thinking caps on.
It was decided at that time to get the old bus running and driving again so that The Old School could have its own bus to pick up its’ students for Sunday School and then bring them home after Class… once all the praying was done of course. (sorry beautiful flowers and winding path, you’re going to have to wait a bit)
The Old School Bus is being completely rebuilt from the ground up, all while keeping the Students needs in mind. It will have a custom frame with full air ride suspension, which will allow for no step up to board… yup, it’s zero entry! The engine will be the twin turbo variety… no, not the new school low displacement V6 kind either, more like a Chevy V8 Duramax Diesel! What’s that you say… a Duramax only has one turbo?! Correct, but this one is gonna have two… just in case the Kids are running late… The Old School Bus will still be able to get ‘em to School early!
The Old School Bus has been under complete custom construction for close to a year now. The driveline is just about done and soon it will be on to steering, brakes and electrical. Rest assured… the body will remain completely original… as it has taken Mother Nature since 1958 to get it looking this good!
